“This is a roller coaster ride of a movie,” says Christian Bale in a featurette for “The Bride.” “It’s monstrous, it’s human, it’s intimate but it’s epic, all at the same time.” In the film, directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, the Academy Award winner plays Frankenstein, a lonely monster who travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride is born.
Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley, who won this year’s Actor, BAFTA, Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards for Best Actress for her performance in “Hamnet,” adds of “The Bride”: “It’s provocative, and it’s punk.”

“It’s naughtier, wilder, more dangerous,” teases Gyllenhaal.
Besides Buckley, Bale and Bening, the film also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal and Penélope Cruz.
