August 1, 2025 — After some time away from his singer-songwriter career, Gentle Bones returns with his highly anticipated third album, “Dark Circle Serum.” This latest release marks a new chapter for the 31-years-old artist, whose real name is Joel Tan, and reflects a shift in focus from themes of self-love and empowerment toward what he describes as the philosophy of basic rejuvenating behaviour, even playfully referencing skin and eye care as metaphors for inner healing and clarity.
Following a successful run of internationally acclaimed works and collaborations between 2019 and 2022, Gentle Bones stepped back from the spotlight to dedicate himself to building Yung Lee Records, his independent label. During this time, he deepened his expertise across A&R, as well as the producing, mixing, and mastering of music. “Dark Circle Serum” is the culmination of his recent endeavors toward a deeper understanding of the music industry and its artistic outputs.
The album’s focus track, “Getting Romantic,” captures the internal push and pull of modern love. With a tone that’s equal parts vulnerable and pragmatic, Gentle Bones reflects on how experiences in relationships reshape our expectations over time. The song explores the tension between his reluctance to open up emotionally and a desire for meaningful connection — especially in an age marked by uncertainty.
