Marking a new milestone for “TOKYO NEO POP,” KID PHENOMENON from EXILE TRIBE officially released their seventh single, “Mirror,” on April 1, 2026. Managed by LDH JAPAN and signed to Sony Music Entertainment, the seven-member dance and vocal group continues its dominant chart run; every single released since their 2023 debut has successfully peaked within the Oricon Top 5.
“I really liked the sound, which has a nostalgic feel to it. I also felt that it would pair really well with the voices of the vocalists, KOTA and TSUBASA, so I was excited to hear this song performed by them,” said member KENSUKE SOREMATSU, sharing his first impression of the song.
“Mirror” represents a significant tonal shift, offering a more mellow and contemplative feel compared to “Black Flame,” their previous high-energy track which was released last November.
A Reflection of the Gen Z Experience
“Mirror” is a mellow track designed to resonate with the Gen Z experience. The lyrics, written by Donguri Ameno, delve into the conflicting emotions of youth, expressing the thoughts silently swallowed and the true feelings that often go unspoken in an increasingly digital world. The song serves as an introspective anthem, with the group moving away from the “sophisticated power” of their earlier work to explore more vulnerable, relatable themes.
KENSUKE also shared his thoughts regarding the lyrics, “I really relate to the line:
「嫌われたって自分でいたい そう言えたら見える景色変わるの」
‘I want to be myself, even if I’m disliked. If I can say that, the scenery I see will change.’
I have confidence in myself now, but in the past, I didn’t, and I used to act in ways that were expected of me or tried to avoid standing out. Even though I wanted to be true to myself, I struggled with that, so this lyric really reminds me of that period in my life.”
Phenomenal Momentum Across The World
The release of “Mirror” follows a period of significant international growth for KID PHENOMENON. The group has been steadily expanding its presence globally, most notably with their recent appearance at SXSW 2026 in Austin, Texas, a prominent international music and art conference, which marked a significant milestone for the group.
Earlier, on February 6, 2026 the group made an appearance on Thailand Music Countdown Live Special. The Thai event drew approximately 400 fans in person and reached over 10,000 viewers via YouTube livestream, peaking at 1,450 concurrent viewers. This follows their 2025 international debut in Vietnam, where they represented Japanese boy groups on the program “Tân Binh Toàn Năng (Show It All Vietnam)”.
Receiving overwhelming support from Southeast Asian fans, KENSUKE responded, “I was very happy to feel that KID PHENOMENON’s music and message are reaching people in Southeast Asia, and it has boosted our confidence and motivation. Through performing overseas, our goal since debut—to become a global group—has started to feel more concrete, and all seven members have become even more driven.”
2026: The “KIDS00’s” Era
KID PHENOMENON’s 2026 trajectory is set to escalate this summer with the KID PHENOMENON LIVE TOUR 2026 “KIDS00’s”. Beginning in July, the high-octane tour will hit 11 cities across Japan, including Tokyo, Osaka, and Hiroshima, as the group continues to shape the next generation of J-POP.
KENSUKE shared one last message to listeners, “‘Mirror’ has a nostalgic sound that leaves a strong impression, but the lyrics are closely connected to the worries and anxieties we face living in today’s world. It’s a song you can listen to anytime, whether you’re feeling positive or when you want to move forward, so I hope you’ll listen to it a lot!”
“Mirror” is now available on major digital streaming platforms
