PHILIPPINES, APRIL 4, 2022<\/strong> \u2013 From Warner Bros. Pictures comes King Richard<\/em><\/strong>, an inspiring biographical film about Richard William, an undeterred father instrumental in raising two of the most extraordinarily gifted tennis athletes of all time. The award-winning sports film premieres Saturday, April 9<\/strong> first on HBO GO<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (Monsters and Men<\/em>), King Richard<\/em><\/strong> stars Will Smith (Ali, The Pursuit of Happyness, Bad Boys for Life<\/em>), who won the \u2018Best Actor in a Leading Role\u2019 at the 94th Academy Awards\u00ae for his portrayal of Richard William, and Aunjanue Ellis, who earned her first \u2018Best Supporting Actress\u2019 Oscar\u00ae nomination. Producers Tim White, Trevor White and Will Smith were nominated for the \u2018Best Picture\u2019 prize. The screenplay by Zach Baylin was given a nod for \u2018Best Original Screenplay\u2019 while Pamela Martin (The Fighter<\/em>) was in the running for the \u2018Best Film Editing\u2019 category. The film\u2019s theme song \u2018Be Alive\u2019 featuring lyrics and music by DIXSON and Beyonc\u00e9, scored a \u2018Best Original Song\u2019 nomination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on the true story that will inspire the world, King Richard<\/em><\/strong> follows the uplifting journey of a family whose unwavering resolve and unconditional belief ultimately delivers two of the world\u2019s greatest sports legends: Venus and Serena Williams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Armed with a clear vision and a brazen 78-page plan, Richard Williams (Smith) is determined to write his daughters, Venus and Serena, into history. Training on Compton, California\u2019s abandoned tennis courts – rain or shine – the girls are shaped by their father\u2019s unyielding commitment and their mother\u2019s balanced perspective and keen intuition, defying the seemingly insurmountable odds and prevailing expectations laid before them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aunjanue Ellis (If Beale Street Could Talk<\/em>, Quantico<\/em>) plays the girls\u2019 mother Oracene \u201cBrandy\u201d Williams, Saniyya Sidney (Hidden Figures<\/em>, Fences<\/em>) stars as Venus Williams, Demi Singleton (Godfather of Harlem<\/em>) as Serena Williams, with Tony Goldwyn (the Divergent series<\/em>, Scandal<\/em>) as coach Paul Cohen and Jon Bernthal (the upcoming The Many Saints of Newark<\/em>, Ford v Ferrari<\/em>) as coach Rick Macci. The ensemble also includes Andy Bean (IT Chapter Two<\/em>), Kevin Dunn (the Transformers films<\/em>, HBO\u2019s Veep<\/em>) and Craig Tate (Greyhound<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Isha Price, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett Smith, Adam Merims, Lynn Harris, Allan Mandelbaum, Jon Mone and Peter Dodd were executive producers. The behind-the-scenes creative team includes Oscar-winning director of photography Robert Elswit (There Will Be Blood<\/em>); production designers Wynn Thomas (Da 5 Bloods<\/em>, Hidden Figures<\/em>) and William Arnold (The Hate U Give<\/em>); and two-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Sharen Davis (Dreamgirls<\/em>, Ray<\/em>). Music is by Oscar-nominated composer Kris Bowers (Space Jam: A New Legacy<\/em>, A Concerto is a Conversation<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
