For art historians and enthusiasts, if there is a piece that could be called as the \u2018holy grail of Philippine art\u201d, it would be Juan Luna\u2019s Hymen, oh Hym\u00e9n\u00e9e!, <\/em>which finally made its way home to the Philippines after 132 years. To celebrate this monumental find, Ayala Museum launched Splendor: Juan Luna, Painter as Hero <\/em>to celebrate the master painter\u2019s opus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an advocate for the arts and culture, Samsung <\/strong>has partnered with Ayala Foundation<\/strong> to be the official audio-visual partner of this historic occasion and to put up the first-ever The Premiere Room.<\/p>\n\n\n

Last June 12, on the 125th year of Philippine independence, a special multimedia exhibit titled \u201cSplendor\u201d celebrating Juan Luna\u2019s legacy as a master painter opened to the public.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

History comes alive<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hymen, oh Hym\u00e9n\u00e9e!<\/em>, inspired by a Roman wedding feast, won a bronze medal in the prestigious Exposition Universelle<\/em> of 1889, a world\u2019s fair held in Paris, France. Luna reached his peak as an artist with the piece, securing his status as a master painter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He considered Hymen, oh Hym\u00e9n\u00e9e! <\/em>as one of his favorites and kept it at his studio for a decade<\/a>. When Luna passed away in Hong Kong in 1899, the awe-inspiring work vanished. Jaime Ponce de Leon of Le\u00f3n Gallery followed leads and clues in what he describes as a \u201ctireless obsession<\/a>.\u201d After spending close to 10 years, he finally acquired it in 2014. It sat in a crate in his storeroom, waiting for the perfect opportunity for the homecoming it deserves.<\/p>\n\n\n

At the heart of the Ayala Museum\u2019s latest exhibit is the Hymen, oh Hym\u00e9n\u00e9e!,<\/em> considered Luna\u2019s opus, which has finally made its way home to the Philippines after 132 years.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

Hymen, oh Hym\u00e9n\u00e9e! <\/em>is the heart of Splendor: Juan Luna, Painter as Hero<\/em>, a rare instance wherein an exhibition is dedicated to an individual work of art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the exhibit\u2019s highlights is a special documentary by Martin Arnaldo, which traces the recovery of the piece and paints a portrait of Luna that the public is not familiar with. The film plays on  loop in Samsung\u2019s The Premiere Room, which features The Premiere<\/strong>, a smart projector TV with a massive 130-inch screen, and the Q Soundbar<\/strong>, with its deep bass and nuanced sound engineering. These features work together to deliver a realistic, vibrant viewing that gives guests the chance to see the film just as the director intended it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Premiere\u2019s minimal and compact body is designed with the highest level of craftsmanship, meant to blend seamlessly into Samsung\u2019s The Premiere Room \u2013 and any space.
