I think that\u2019s what it is that people really respond to.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnd let\u2019s be honest, a lot of people are very scared of nuns in general, but I think from a supernatural thriller perspective, the idea of that evil embedded in what should be the epitome of good is just so sacrilegious and compelling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Directed by Michael Chaves, \u201cThe Nun II\u201d finds Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga) once again coming face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun, this time in France, where a priest has recently been murdered.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"THE NUN II | OFFICIAL TRAILER\" width=\"680\" height=\"383\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NNhtX4gtoiI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Watch the trailer: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/NNhtX4gtoiI\"><em>https:\/\/youtu.be\/NNhtX4gtoiI<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>| <em>Video Credit: \u201cWarner Bros. Pictures\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think Sister Irene is very reluctant to come back into this realm because of how close she had come to death in her first encounter with Valak,\u201d says Safran. \u201cBut I think she realizes that because she\u2019s the only one who\u2019s faced Valak and survived, and she has vanquished the demon in battle at least once \u2013 I think she realizes that for the sake of good, she must do it. She was a novitiate in the first movie, but she is a nun now, and it is her duty to fight on the side of good. I think she realizes that her duty overcomes the natural fear that pervades her as a result of knowing she\u2019s going to have to go back into battle against this epitome of ultimate evil.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another familiar face returning in the sequel is Frenchie, now called by his name Maurice. \u201cBecause Maurice [played by Jonas Bloquet] is based on a real character \u2013 and we introduced him in the original \u2018Conjuring\u2019 with Ed and Lorraine Warren [played by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga] in that old footage \u2013 we loved the idea of the Maurice story and knew that we wanted to continue it well before it ever gets to the time in the late \u201960s\/early \u201970s,\u201d says Safran. \u201cBut what happens in the interim? Here he was in Romania, he survived the demon, and now what happens? We loved the idea of following him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though some characters may be familiar, audiences must get ready for new and more frightening scare sequences. \u201cIt\u2019s important that every movie that we make be a worthy successor to \u2018The Conjuring\u2019 name, so we wanted to make sure that we had a really original story that did not feel derivative,\u201d Safran shares. \u201cWe love the idea of switching it up, and it\u2019s more of an investigation this time. Then the stories coincide in the third act for the big, exciting finale. We wanted to make sure that the scare sequences felt fresh and not derivative of the earlier films\u2026 it was just about making sure that we delivered on every front \u2013 true stakes, great characters, unique scares \u2013 and just an intensity that makes it live up to \u2018The Conjuring\u2019 name. I think that [director] Michael Chaves brought it all together and that audiences are really going to enjoy \u2018The Nun II.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Nun II\u201d opens only in cinemas September 6.
