In \u201cJoker: Folie \u00e0 Deux,\u201d the highly anticipated sequel to the Academy Award-winning \u201cJoker,\u201d Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn. \u201cI got to see the original \u2018Joker\u2019 before it ever came out,\u201d says Lady Gaga in a new Harley Quinn-focused featurette. \u201cIt was a very special experience. I had never seen a world created like that before.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On why Lady Gaga, director Todd Phillips said at CinemaCon in April, \u201cWe cast Gaga because she\u2019s magic. I was a producer on \u2018A Star Is Born\u2019… That was the first time I really met her and got to watch her work.\u201d And in the featurette, Phillips talks more about working with the music icon. \u201cShe easily slipped into that role,\u201d says Phillips, who also directed the first film. \u201cIt\u2019s not like she\u2019s trying to be Harley Quinn from the comic books. She\u2019s Lee in this world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adds Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Joker \/ Arthur Fleck, of his costar: \u201cI found her to be without ego and had such a fierce determination to get right in with us. She understood that there had to be a rawness to the character.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt brought all of that rough and tough energy and how big these dreams were and how far they would fall,\u201d says Lady Gaga about playing Harley Quinn. Ahead of the movie\u2019s opening in cinemas, the Grammy-winning artist got fans even more excited about her turn as the iconic character by releasing \u201cHarlequin,\u201d a companion album to \u201cJoker: Folie \u00e0 Deux,\u201d featuring 13 songs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
