When James Wan and Peter Safran set out to make the first \u201cConjuring\u201d film, their goal was simply to make one great supernatural thriller, the likes of which people had not seen in a very long time, and in doing so, bring a great genre back to prominence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 10 years and with an upcoming highly anticipated ninth movie later, the \u201cConjuring\u201d Universe has become the highest-grossing horror movie franchise to date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe just wanted to make one great movie,\u201d shares Peter Safran, producer of \u201cThe Conjuring: Last Rites\u201d and all the other previous eight movies in the franchise. \u201cAnd so, we\u2019re really proud to be here 14 years later, with all of the tremendous commercial and critical successes that these films have had\u2026 I believe you\u2019re always conflicted by the end of something beautiful \u2013 I feel happy and sad. But with the series, I\u2019m happy to have been involved with such an amazing group of artists, and that we\u2019ve all gotten to end this journey on a high note.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

James Wan, who directed \u201cThe Conjuring\u201d 1 and 2, and has been a producer since the second film in the Universe, shares the same sentiment as Safran. \u201cFor me, \u2018The Conjuring: Last Rites\u2019 is pretty much the end of an era and, because of that, it\u2019s somewhat bittersweet,\u2019 says Wan. \u201cWe\u2019ve had such a good time making these films, because it feels like such a family unit. But like all good things\u2026 I think we\u2019re finishing up at the right time. It feels like this movie is a good way to wrap up the world, at least for now. It\u2019s been over a decade with the \u2018Conjuring\u2019 Universe. I\u2019ve made many acquaintances who\u2019ve become long-term friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wan is especially grateful to actors Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, who play Lorraine and Ed Warren, respectively. \u201cVera and Patrick have always been the center of these movies,\u201d says Wan. \u201cThey have such a great relationship, onscreen and off \u2013 they\u2019re such good friends. I think that really comes across and the audience sees how authentic it is. I think it brings much more reality to the characters that they play. It\u2019s a big part of why fans out there love these films. I have always said, \u2018They come for the fright and the scares, but they really stick around for Vera and Patrick.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
