The Man<\/strong> has been keeping fans on their toes all summer\u2014first with the surprise EP uLu Selects Vol. 2<\/em><\/strong>, and most recently with the slinky new track \u201cDenali<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong>\u201d Today, the Alaskan-bred, Portland-based band returns with news of their highly anticipated album SHISH<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, out November 7 via KNIK, <\/strong>the band\u2019s imprint on Thirty Tigers.<\/strong> To mark the announcement, they\u2019re sharing two singles off the album, the soaring \u201cTanana,\u201d<\/strong> where Gourley\u2019s vocals take center stage, and the frenetic \u201cMush,\u201d <\/strong>a high-octane preview of the record to come.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the new tracks, Gourley shares, \u201c\u2018Mush\u2019 is survival, connection, and ambition. Rural life with moments of danger and absurdity, like dirt bikes, smokers, gunfire, and video games. The repeated line ‘we can be family\u2019 pushes against isolation, reaching for something solid. This is a repeating theme on the record –  build a life, support your people, buy land, and grow something lasting. The message is simple: don\u2019t give up, want more, and fight for it. Meanwhile, \u2018Tanana\u2019 voices a generational sadness, searching for fleeting meaning in a world on edge.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SHISH<\/em><\/strong> <\/strong>finds Portugal.The Man on the edge of discovery. Earlier this summer, they dropped their surprise EP uLu Selects Vol #2, <\/em><\/strong>an unflinching, blisteringly honest collection of sonic exorcisms. Now with SHISH<\/em><\/strong>, Portugal. The Man pulls the curtain back further – across its ten distinct tracks, the band leans into discomfort, vulnerability, and the warped pop sensibility that only Portugal. The Man can offer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this summer, Portugal. The Man announced their upcoming \u2018Denali\u2019 Headline Tour<\/strong> slated for this fall. The tour will kick off on November 6th in Portland and will make stops in Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, New York, D.C., and wrap up with a final show in Austin. Portugal. The Man soared to new heights in 2017 with the release of their now RIAA-certified Platinum album, Woodstock<\/em>. The album was marked by the astounding success of their infectious single, \u201cFeel It Still,\u201d which earned the group a GRAMMY for \u201cBest Pop Duo\/Group Performance,\u201d a 7x RIAA Platinum certification, a record setting 20-week residency at #1 on alternative radio, and an inescapable presence on the Top 40 airwaves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the shine of their myriad of musical accomplishments lies the group\u2019s long-standing passion for social justice. In fact, this is precisely the intersection in which Portugal. The Man thrives; throughout their career, the band has consistently exemplified how to deeply commit to both artistry and activism. This ultimately inspired them to launch the Pass The Mic Foundation<\/strong> in 2020, focused on universal issues related to human rights, community health, and the environment, with an emphasis on causes directly impacting Indigenous Peoples, including Alaska Native Health (providing the highest quality of health services for Alaska Native people) and Seeding Sovereignty (radicalizing and disrupting colonized spaces through land, body, food sovereignty work and more). The band is also committed to raising awareness and vital funds for the DHDDS community through the Frances Changed My Life<\/em><\/strong> campaign. Created in honor of Gourley\u2019s daughter Frances, the campaign aims to support families affected by DHDDS by helping ease both the emotional and financial burdens that come with rare diseases. Over the past couple of years, the band has raised and donated over a million dollars across both charities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Portugal. The Man have also partnered with an array of organizations such as National Coalition Against Censorship, The Skatepark Project (helping communities build public skate parks for youth in underserved communities), March for Our Lives (Gun Reform), Keep Oregon Well (Mental Health), and Protect Our Winters (Climate Change), to name just a few. In 2022, the band furthered their passion for activism when they launched PTM\u2019s NIGHT OUT initiative, supporting disabled fans requiring ADA access.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
