The second chapter of the film \u2013 which features 178 unique characters representing 67 different species to be voiced by renowned actors \u2013 picks up from Judy and Nick navigating their new police-partners dynamic, and discovering new things about each other in the process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audiences can expect the typical Disney storytelling magic to unravel in Judy and Nick\u2019s unique narrative, as they work through their differences, re-discover their strengths as partners, and take on the twisting trail of a great mystery when Gary De\u2019Snake arrives in Zootopia and turns the animal metropolis upside down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking Judy and Nick\u2019s partnership to the next level, centering on the film\u2019s theme of \u2018partnership\u2019, director Byron Howard describes their dynamic as \u201clike when new friends share an apartment together, and they start to figure out things like, \u2018Oh, you don\u2019t do dishes,\u2019 and \u2018You don\u2019t return phone calls.\u2019 There are things they\u2019re learning about each other that are definitely new.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Co-director Jared Bush then shares how the duos\u2019 relationship relates to how we try to resolve our differences saying \u201cTheir relationship really touches on how our differences can feel like obstacles, but sometimes simple conversations can actually push through those obstacles. Apart from Nick and Judy\u2019s journey of re-discovering their relationship, \u2018Zootopia 2\u2019 also introduces a new character, Gary de\u2019 Snake, a sweet, loveable \u2013 and super venomous \u2013 pit viper on a mission to restore his family\u2019s good name by solving a Zootopian mystery decades in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the making. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fans will note that snakes have always played a part in previous Disney Animation features with roles as villains or as minor characters, but it\u2019s never been part of the lead protagonist cast, nor has one been animated by the studio in CG. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which is why the animation team behind Gary de\u2019Snake put hours of effort and thought into making his character as realistic, yet as relatable and loveable as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur goal was to make Gary interesting, funny and someone audiences could relate to. Snakes can be scary and seem off-putting, but we wanted to break through and not have that be the case,\u201d said Gary\u2019s animation supervisor, Adam Green. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
