Pictures<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The first reactions to \u201cClayface,\u201d DC Studios\u2019 first horror thriller, are now available and it looks like fans are in for quite a horrifying treat.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Directed by James Watkins (\u201cSpeak No Evil\u201d) and co-written by Mike Flanagan (\u201cThe Haunting of Hill House,\u201d \u201cCarrie,\u201d \u201cDoctor Sleep\u201d), \u201cClayface\u201d tells the story of the cult favorite villain from Gotham\u2019s rogues gallery, played by Tom Rhys Harries. The official synopsis reads: Matt Hagen\u2019s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss\u2019s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self\u2026 but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Watch the trailer: <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Xk_QQyvEERE?si=t6nPzEBUFyL2u1yI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>https:\/\/youtu.be\/Xk_QQyvEERE?si=t6nPzEBUFyL2u1yI<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Podcaster Brandon Davis said in a post that \u201c#Clayface is freakishly awesome. Watkins makes an unsettling Gotham and gets very creative with Clayface\u2019s abilities. Gruesome, dark moments and twisted ideas at play. Tom Rhys Harries is a star, literally in the movie and for his performance. Dude kills it. Well done by all.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCLAYFACE is incredible!\u201d raved Chris Killian of <a href=\"http:\/\/comicbook.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">comicbook.com<\/a>. \u201cIt molds Matt Hagen\u2019s tragic backstory into a wildly gory spectacle. There are some crazy unique body horror moments that\u2019ll make you squirm, but what I loved most is it\u2019s also a heartfelt throwback to a bygone era of classic gothic romance films. The movie does such a fantastic job introducing us to Clayface, it\u2019ll be an absolute shame if we don\u2019t see him go toe-to-toe with Batman in the future. However, don\u2019t go hoping for Bats. An awesome addition to the DCU that doesn\u2019t require any knowledge of DC to enjoy. It\u2019s a hard R and loaded with brutal scenes that really surprised me. Audience freaked out a few times during my screening to what was being depicted on screen. Strong recommend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>#CLAYFACE is so gross &amp; yet you can\u2019t look away. I\u2019m not a fan of horror but this was a masterpiece,\u201d said POC Culture. \u201c@TomRhysHarries delivers a star making performance that\u2019s charismatic &amp; horrifying. Naomi Ackie is equally as powerful. I watched the entire movie like this \ud83e\udee3 I\u2019m blown away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jenna Anderson of Go Read Some Comics strongly recommends people watch the movie in cinemas as well. \u201c#Clayface completely blew me away. It\u2019s disgusting, inventive, and astonishingly funny and earnest,\u201d she said in a post. \u201cIt slots into the DCU so effortlessly. You owe it to yourself to see it in a theater filled with other people\u2019s reactions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Batman\u201d director Matt Reeves co-produced the film with James Gunn and Peter Safran, among others. \u201cClayface,\u201d also starring David Dencik, Max Minghella and Eddie Marsan, opens in cinemas October 21.
