Hello Henry!

A super fan event for “The Witcher” -a new, epic fantasy series.

Based on the best selling fantasy series of novels and short stories by Polish Author Andrzej Sapkowski, which were later adapted into a video game, which won “GameSpy’s Game of the Year” in 2007 and IGN’s “Best RPG Game of 2007”. The Witcher is now getting the Netflix treatment and is starring none other then Superman himself, Henry Cavill.

Weeks before its 20th of December release on Netflix, Filipino fans were treated to a once in a lifetime opportunity, to see, possibly touch, possibly have selfies and to get their “The Witcher” posters and other toys and memorabilia signed by Henry Cavill himself and “The Witcher” showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich during a fan event last December 12 at the Activity Center of Ayala Malls Manila Bay.

Prior to the afternoon’s very exciting events (its not every day when you are in the presence of the Man of Steel himself) the Press got to meet the two in a Press Conference where they discussed the upcoming Fantasy series, Henry doing his own stunts, among other exciting things to expect in the series.

Lauren, whose work includes (Daredevil and the Umbrella Academy among others) talked about the show, aside from the magic and the monsters and impressive fight scenes, I know, because I’ve seen the first episode) being about family, and about the three main characters finding each other and that definitely caught my interest.

I for one, will never get over these events, when we feel as though the Philippines is but a small blip in the big map of Pop Culture and events. I still pinch myself at the recent onslaught of international celebrities coming to the country. I think it was a bit of magic that “The Witcher In Manila” was almost the same time as last year’s Aquaman Press Tour AKA “Momoa in Manila.

While Henry Cavill did not run around the fan event like his fellow Justice League member, he did take time to sign posters, toys, memorabilia, a Superman Lego, The Witcher books, games, and yes even a tissue paper. He was gracious, he would smile and have a kind word of two to star struck fans, some who even lined up in the wee hours of the morning just to be in his presence. Shout out to sweet Lola who also stood alongside fans for a chance to get Henry Cavill’s signature. For the lucky ones to get a selfie and/or a poster or toy signed, the experience would definitely be a highlight of their year, I for one consider it to be.

If you are a fan of the game and/or books (I just picked up a copy of the book “Blood Of Elves” then you should be looking forward to seeing it and if you are just hearing of “The Witcher” for the first time, have you been hiding under a rock?) Make sure to mark your calendar on December 20 when it drops on Netflix (it could just be the next “Game of Thrones”).
