TBA Studios, one of the country’s top film companies—known for its groundbreaking and award-winning movies like “Heneral Luna,” “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral,” “Women of the Weeping River” to name a few—has officially launched a workshop program designed to provide opportunities for aspiring filmmakers and enthusiasts to learn in the various fields of filmmaking.
TBA Studios Film Workshops aim to offer its students a chance to learn from some of the brightest minds in the industry as well as build valuable connections to start their filmmaking journey.
The first in the series kicks off on September 28 with a session on Producing and Directing.
Learn the different elements of production and the fundamental skills needed to create a film from TBA Studios’ very own Production Manager, Joe Alandy. Alandy attained his BFA in Film Production from Chapman University and has participated in Berlinale Talents, Talents Tokyo, and the EAVE – Ties That Bind Producer’s Workshop. He has produced several films under TBA Studios, including “Tayo Sa Huling Buwan Ng Taon” (2019) and the historical epic “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral” (2018).
JP Habac, the critically acclaimed director of the hit romantic comedy “I’m Drunk, I Love You” (2017), shares his experience in narrative filmmaking. Habac’s films have been screened and won awards in major local and international festivals like Cairo International Film Festival, Busan Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival and Bogotá Short Film Festival. His short film “Maria” won Best Short Film in Cinema One Originals and at the Glasgow Short Film Festival. He is currently working on “Golden,” which was selected at the Asian Film Market Project of 2019 Busan International Film Festival and the FDCP Project Market.
The second leg of the series will be on October 12 led by Dwein Baltazar and Tey Clamor for Scriptwriting and Cinematography, respectively.
Baltazar began her career in film as a stylist before venturing into directing with her first feature film “Mamay Umeng” (2012). She made her mark in the industry with “Gusto Kita with All My Hypothalamus” (2018) and “Oda Sa Wala” (2018). Both took home various awards at the 67th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Science (FAMAS) 2019, including Best Screenplay, Best Artistic Achievement in Direction, and Best Picture for “Gusto Kita with All My Hypothalamus.” Baltazar also made history for being the first Filipina filmmaker to compete in an A-list festival in Europe, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (Czech Republic) where “Oda Sa Wala” made its international debut.
Clamor received a BA in Film from the University of the Philippines Film Institute and has participated in the Berlinale Talent Campus in 2006, the International Documentary Masterclass (Serbia) in 2017, Arri Academy, and recently got in at the American Society of Cinematographers’ Vision Mentorship Program. Trained under veteran cinematographers Neil Daza and Nap Jamir, Clamor received her first break in the film “Sleepless” (2015). Since then, she has completed eighteen feature films, including “Ang Manananggal Sa Unit 23B,” “Ned’s Project,” and “Tayo Sa Huling Buwan Ng Taon.”
