NATIONAL ATHLETE PAULINE LOPEZ LAUNCHES “SHERO TAEKWONDO”

The two-time SEA Games Gold medalist for Taekwondo launches her own martial arts school in the hopes to empower the next Champion.

PHILIPPINES, MAY 3, 2022 – It’s no secret that the country has boasted female athletes in the previous years, especially in sports that are mostly male-dominated, but it was not always the case. This is one of the motivations for Pauline Lopez growing up. “I once was told I kick like a girl” she says in her post for Women’s Month this year, and so far with the number of accolades she has received in the world of Taekwondo, she has proven time and again that she is definitely a champion to look out for — and one to continuously be an inspiration to many.

In 2021, in the midst of the pandemic she launched “Shero PH”, a brand that aims to empower not only women and their allies, but for the youth to achieve their dreams. She also launched a podcast called “Shero Talk” which features a number of women whose lives bring inspiration to many through their empowering stories of strength and will. It is only safe to say that for Ms. Lopez to launch her own martial arts school came from the idea that women heroes are here to uplift a community through the ethos of what Taekwondo can contribute to the society.

Ms. Lopez started her Taekwondo journey at a young age. She became part of the national team at 13, and at 17 years old, she earned her first Gold Medal at the women’s bantamweight in the Asian Youth Games in 2013. She was the first Filipina to do so. She then went on to get her second gold at the Asian Taekwondo Championships in 2016. To date she has earned two Gold medals at the SEA Games and a bronze medal at the Asian Games. Her unequal passion and dedication to the sport as well as her vision to inspire those around her to pursue their goals is her main focus on the vision for Shero Taekwondo. Ms. Lopez is also a licensed Philippine Taekwondo Association instructor which means that her lessons are prepared based on the values and principles Taekwondo has taught worldwide.

Shero Taekwondo will now be accepting registrations from students aged 3-12. Teens may also apply but the slots are limited at this time. The classes will follow a module-based program: 16 sessions for students who want to learn Taekwondo and advance to their next belt levels, ultimately reaching the goal of blackbelt. They offer different programs from Face to Face, Online, Hybrid (or a mix of both face to face and online), and private sessions. Trial sessions are also open in case a student has yet to make up their mind to go for the full program. Ms. Lopez aims to teach the core values that Taekwondo imparts, one that can inspire each student to practice across their youth and their lives.

Classes begin this May 21st. Aspiring students may register here: bit.ly/SheroTaekwondo. Physical classes will be conducted at 3F, Virtual Playground Studios, Fort Bonifacio, BGC, Taguig or via Zoom.
