Santa Clarita Diet Season 3 – Series Review

Probably my most favorite thing about ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ is the incredible team of Joel (sometimes pronounced “Joelle”_ and Sheila, played with such great chemistry by Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. Who, despite the odds have maintained a relatively “healthy” marriage, you know, even if one of them is a zombie.

Season 3 of the undead comedy challenges this dynamic with the question of immortality; if Sheila were to live forever – what would happen to Joel? While Sheila is quick & eager to bite Joel so that they can be together forever; Joel isn’t so sure he’s ready to join the undead of Santa Clarita (which in Season 3 seems to be increasing in number & this is were tensions rise in the seemingly perfect partnership. With this brewing in between Joel & Sheila there are also a number of problems , difficulties going on (of course, there is).

Santa Clarita Diet

We get to meet and ancient organization whose sole purpose is to hunt & kill the undead)that does house calls & asks you to send in videos as part of your application- (you know, should you want to join) their sacred order.

Hilarity (still) ensues – as they go about a centuries old war with the undead & their mundane without missing a beat.

Santa Clarita Diet continues its “out of the fire and into the frying pan” plot while maintaining its charm & comedic timing.

It’s cast of eccentric characters continue to grow yet still retain its focus on our beloved Hammonds. Kudos to Liv Hewson’s Abby Hammond who can go toe to toe with her parents, the fact that Joel and Sheila are even more terrified of their daughter is just hilarious. In Season 3 Abby is forced to acknowledge the significance of sweet and eager Eric (Skyler Gisondo) in her life.

While Sheila tries to find meaning and purpose in being undead she unknowingly attracts more “followers” and learns to trust & depend on her family more.

Santa Clarita Diet

One of the great things about Santa Clarita Diet is that it introduces an origin & a how to process becoming undead. Something which some zombie series/movies often just skips and its not your typical post apocalyptic scenario since the weird lady in your yoga class just might be a zombie.
