The Politician Season 2 – Gets Real, Encourages First Time Voters to Vote!

The way that the first season ended, “The Politician” was always going to have a bigger and better second season. Who cares about a High School election when you can enjoy the drama and intrigue of a run for State Senate?

Also, with power house talent like Judith Light and Bette Midler it was definitely going on to be on a league of its own. I love how the season focused on the power that the younger generation can wield, and opening up the conversation that they can do something (just take a look at how K-Pop stans punked Trump’s recent Tulsa rally). It really resonated with me the importance of practicing your right to vote. Which is all the more true and relevant with an upcoming November election in the U.S.. On the home front, I guess the relevance is a call for people to vote, to ensure that we elect the right people in office, this is true, considering how our government failed on its Covid-19 pandemic response.

Admittedly, the show is silly at times, were all those throuples necessary? The whole Rambosha (Jack and Poy) incident and yes, that Midsommar Maternity boot camp.

Still, the show had a lot to offer and I especially enjoyed the episode which featured a mom and a daughter on opposing sides of a political campaign, it was essentially a “Boomer versus Zoomer” moment.

There really is a lot of promise in a young politician, one who has not been tainted with the corrupt machinations of the system and who is genuinely in the service of his constituents, we have that right here in Pasig’s own Mayor Vico, who came out on top in a recent satisfaction survey on Mayors and their response to the pandemic. And I’d like to think that Ben Platt’s Payton Hobart is a bit like him.

It’s kind of amusing when the lines between truth and fiction become blurred eh? And what you see on the screen is just a reflection of what is really happening in real life, such as Infinity Jackson (Zoey Deutsch) taking on a Greta Thunberg persona. And I think that’s a good thing since this season does a bit of call-to-arms for young people to go out and vote! Maybe in our country, its a call for adults to vote, some maybe even for the first time.

Definitely better than the first season, anything that can get the youth interested in politics and having a stand in social issues is always a plus for me.
