A Year of using the Huawei P30

Trying out the Huawei P30 in low light conditions

I have acquired the Huawei P30 since May 2019. The said device was a replacement since I’ll be retaining my mobile plan with Globe.

At that time I was still working for a BPO company as a technical support associate. I do photography on the side and normally I shoot with a fullframe DSLR. I have been eyeing the device since I heard of it. It had features that had me curious, such as the Leica Triple Camera which boast of a 40MP (wide angle lens, f/1.8 aperture), 16MP(ultra wide angle lens, f/2.2) and 8MP (telephoto, f/2.4 aperture,OIS). They said that it has multiple auto focus modes(but I’m not getting into that on this post).

As a photo enthusiast this is an easy choice for me because of its features.

Initially I was delighted to use the device in general since it’s much faster than it’s much older predecesor (Huawei P9), which is the phone that I was using, prior to my upgrade to the Huawei P30. Since I’m the guy that handles tech stuff when it comes to our blog or social media, it was a breeze to do multiple tasks as the device allows me to run and use 2 apps at the same time (Split Screen mode). The Split Screen feature is most useful with my mobile games. I can play 2 MMORPG(Ragnarok Eternal Love and Black Desert Mobile) games in one sitting, this is how powerful the P30 is.

It was my first time to encounter LTE on a mobile phone with P30 and it is definitely faster than the 3G connection that I was used to with my older phone.

As for the camera, I was perplexed at first since there are 3 optics and that had me thinking, if all of these lenses use 1 image sensor, or all 3 had seperate sensors. When I researched and explored further I found out it was the latter, which makes sense. The main camera was sharp and clear and had no problem going into low light conditions, where as the ultra wide and telephoto cameras of the P30 are not as good as the main. However, with practice and familiarity these cons of the ultra wide and telephoto can be worked around. I was pretty dependent on the device, that when we decided to actually start working on our Youtube Channel, the Huawei P30 became part of the production to capture video. We actually use it as a main camera in a lot of the videos that we have uploaded. You can check the description boxes to find out which videos were shot with the P30.

So now, its been a little over a year since I started using the Huawei P30 and I can say that I am really happy with its performance. It can easily keep up with the demands of creating content for our blog and YouTube channel, as well as being able to handle all of my mobile gaming needs. Of course, as a photographer my favorite feature would have to be that it can take great photos as well! This comes in handy when we are out on events and I have to take quality photos and videos.
